Dental Implants With an Oblong Hole

The apex hole corresponds to a perforation of the apical part of the implant, which allows the passage of a bone formation to anchor the implant through the hole. This shape also serves as an anti-rotation device for the implant. The holes at the apex may be oval in shape, but current designs rule them out as they can lead to peri-implant apical lesions. The surrounding tissue is subjected to greater stress during the healing step because bone formation must pass through the implant and not just osseointegrate the implant.
