For certain esthetic restorations, castable or cast-over (partially castable) abutments can be used. These abutments are used by dental laboratories to fabricate a custom abutment using the lost wax technique over the burned-out portions of the part. Dental technicians model the wax abutment according to the emergence profile of the gingiva to obtain a customized abutment made of biocompatible alloy. These prosthetic elements make it possible to obtain a customized part at a lower cost. They are available fully castable or partially castable. In the latter case, a machined metal part provides the connection to the implant and the overlying cast part provides support to the soft tissue.
