The ball abutment is a fixation system used to attach a removable prosthesis to dental implants. It provides additional support for the prosthesis and increases patient comfort. It is a historically very widely used system for attaching overdenture prosthesis. The spherical shape of the abutment allows easy positioning in the female part of the inner part of the overdenture. This prosthetic concept is effective and relatively inexpensive. However, the retention and stability offered by other, newer attachments are leading practitioners to opt for new designs such as the Locator abutments.
