Impression copings are machined prosthetic components that are screwed onto the implant to allow the impression to be taken. Impression trays are available in two designs, depending on the impression technique used: open (pick-up) or closed (pop-in) tray. They are used to position the implant replica (analog) in an impression and to obtain an accurate model of the three-dimensional positioning of the implant. Pick-up impression copings must be unscrewed before the impression is removed, while pop-in impression copings remain attached to the implant. After taking the impression, the dentist must reposition the analog (and the impression cap) in the impression to obtain a model that transmits all the information to the dental laboratory.
